Desktop PC DDR5 Switch ... Still DDR4
RAM, sometimes abbreviated with the English Acronym RAM (Random Access Memory), is the computer memory in which the information processed by a computer device can be recorded. We write RAM in opposition to the dead memory. Acronym RAM dates from 1965.
As soon as the next month, the Intel 12th generation core processor (Elder Lake), which supports the new memory standard DDR5 , is scheduled to launch in the domestic and overseas markets. However, at least until the end of this year, only the main board compatible with the existing DDR4 memory will be distributed.
Major memory manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have started mass production DDR5 memory, but they are not yet supplied to the market for general consumer. Memory manufacturers for some games have released DDR5 memory, but this product will also be supplied to the end of the year.
■ DDR5 standard with maximum speed, integrated density per module
DDR5 is a memory specification to replace DDR4, which is a widely used memory specification that is widely used on desktop PCs and laptops, servers, and so on. The bandwidth per memory module was raised up to 4800 Mbps up to 25% compared to DDR4 (3200Mbps), and the integrated density has increased up to 8 GB (1 GB).
International Peninsula Baseline Consultation (JEDEC) established the DDR5 standard in July last year, followed by SK Hynix in October DDR5 Memory. In addition, Samsung Electronics has recently entered 14 nano-grade EUV DDR5 memory mass production.
Market Research Agencies Trend Force predicted that last October DDR5 memory will be introduced first on a server market that requires high capacity memory as DDR5 memory is a chip chip sapphire for the next generation Intel server.
■ DDR5 The first processor is not for a non-server
However, Intel posted a Sapphire Rafiz launch schedule, which was scheduled to launch in the second quarter of the third quarter, posted in February next year. As a result, the processor that writes DDR5 memory on the PC platform is expected to be the Intel 12th generation core processor that is released in November.
However, the problem is that DDR5 memory supply is not smooth. SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics are producing DDR5 memory, but they are not yet supplied to the market for general consumers.
A high-performance memory manufacturer for some games such as Gail and Curses has also disclosed DDR5 memory modules for PC. However, these products have not finished compatibility and operation verification with all mainboards released on the market.
■ DDR4 mainstream by the end of this year
The memory module with the 12th generation core processor supports both DDR4 / DDR5 memory. However, there may be very difficult that the product with all of the DDR4 / DDR5 slots on one of the main boards may be very difficult.
Major PC Mainboard manufacturers will also only bring DDR4 standard main board for the time being in the domestic market. A manufacturer said, Some manufacturers will be a small amount of DDR5 main board to make performance, but there is no general sales plan.
Another manufacturer said, The DDR4 settled as a memory standard for PCs is now settled in 2013, and more than a year, has been installed in the market since the early 2015. DDR5 can be shorter than this because the server market demand is overlapped. I explained that we have to wait by the end of this year.
